Last year, Halle Berry and her ex, Gabriel Aubry, were fighting in court because Berry wanted to move their daughter, Nahla, to France. Berry, who is engaged to native Frenchman, Olivier Martinez, said Europe was safer than Los Angeles when it comes to paparazzi, and the fact that she has a few stalkers in the US also weighed heavily on her decision to want to move. On the other hand, Aubry felt she was just trying to take his daughter away from her and they battled it out in front of a judge. The move was eventually denied in court.
Berry and Aubry have since reached a civil custody agreement, but Berry’s plans to move to France haven’t changed. She interviewed with the UK’s HELLO! magazine and spoke on the issue:
When Nahla turns 18, she’ll be legally able to make her own decisions about where she wants to be and I think that then, when she’s off on her own, we’ll move there. It’s where I want to end my days, that’s for sure.”
Berry also said that Martinez told her to not learn French just yet because it can be too much to take on right now, and said it will just come naturally to her once she’s there.
I was told very lovingly by him not to work on it too hard now but to wait until we get to live there. Because for me, at my age and with all that I already have on my plate, trying to learn French is probably one of the hardest things I could possibly do. He thinks I’ll have an easier time when we’re living there and immersed in the culture – if we ever get to go that is.”
Nahla is 5 years old, so the couple would have been together for 13 years before Halle says she’ll be moving to France. In Hollywood, that’s is a very LONG relationship, so only time will tell!
