Oscar Fashion: Yes or Mess?

Queen Latifah glowed on the Oscar carpet in her Antique Rose shoulder strap gown….

But I cannot say the same for Zoe Saldana. This gown was doing way too many things at once for my taste. The can can girl detail was a major fail but the shoes and lack of a pedicure only made matters worse……

Mairah & Nick Cannon looked fierce as always, that was UNTIL…….

…..I peeped Mariah’s split that rode all the way up to her neck. The bodice of this gown is so elegant. Why would anyone dare to destroy such a classy neckline with a Playaz club split??

…And J-lo gets a 50/50 on this gown. I LOVED her profile in this Armani gown but she could have gone without the hip train. Overdone is simply overdone! To be honest, it doesn’t look so bad in these photos but those of you who watched the red carpet coverage know exactly what I’m talking about. Three people tripped over her hip train . She needs to take out liability insurance before donning an outfit like this. But check out the sexy back profile…….

Jill Scott: An Alcoholic?

…ok well let me stop being so dramatic! LOL

Last night was the premiere of the Lifetime Movie Network original film, “Sins of the Mother” where Jill Scott stars as a recovering alcoholic…and I must say she did her thang!

“Sins of the Mother” depicts the relationship of a reformed alcoholic, Nona (Jill Scott) and her daughter, Shay (Nicole Beharie). It’s a story based on forgiveness, love and hope. 

In case you missed it, encore presentations will be on Wednesday 2/24 and Saturday 2/27 (at 8 PM & 12 AM).

After watching the movie, I had visions of Jill Scott accepting an Academy Award in a few years……mark my words.

Alicia Keys & Swizz Beats Engaged??

Many blogs are buzzing with rumors that Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz have gotten engaged. They were recently snapped on the beach in Hawaii, and in the pics, Keys is sporting some bling on her ring finger. But the wedding will have to wait, as Beatz’s divorce from singer Mashonda isn’t quite yet final. I’m looking closely at the ring and it doesn’t look exactly like an engagement ring if you ask me. Whatevs..

While her reps continue to deny the engagement, sources in the Keys camp have confirmed that the couple got engaged on her 29th birthday on Monday. Swizz allegedly popped the question with a 7 karat diamond ring and the couple is said to be celebrating in Hawaii.

Devastation of Epic Proportions in Haiti

Yesterday the largest earthquake to hit Haiti in 200 years ripped through the nation’s capital Port Au Prince. The red cross estimates 3 million people to have been affected by the earthquake. Haiti’s population is 9 million, so that means one third of the country is injured, dead or displaced. The UN building, the National Palace, and thousands of buildings and homes have all been reduced to rubble.  Text “Yele” to 501501 to instantly donate $5.

I cried this morning when I watched a man from Connecticut who was in Haiti with his wife as a missionary, told the story of how he searched for her under the rubble for for 10 hrs. He removed brick by brick and lifted metal sheet by metal sheet all night in tears as he screamed her name looking for her. Luckily they found her alive but in bad shape.

Keysha Cole ENGAGED!!!!

Keyshia Cole has more than one reason to celebrate in the New Year!! The songstress is now engaged to NBA player Daniel Gibson.

“I can confirm she is engaged and has an incredible ring,” the rep said, adding that Gibson proposed on New Year’s Eve at the stroke of midnight in Cleveland, which was “an absolute surprise.”

“When he asked her to marry him, she was flabbergasted. He presented her the ring and her mouth dropped in amazement. It’s too beautiful for words.”

I am hearing reports that Keysha may have already delivered the couple’s son. As of right now these reports are unconfirmed. She wasnt due until March.

Keyshia got a tattoo a few months back that says “Truly Blessed” and underneath it has her fiance’s name D. Gibson. Looks like someone is over the moon in love!

Actress Brittany Murphy died over the weekend due to cardiac arrest.  Sources say her mom found her collapsed in the shower and immediately administered CPR. She was pronounced dead shortly after they transferred her to Cedar Sinai Hospital. The 32 year old leaves behind her husband Simon Monjack. She was best known for her roles in “Clueless”, “Don’t Say A Word” and “8 Mile”.

It took long enough!!! But Nelly and Kelly Rowland, the “Dilemma” collaborators, have recorded a follow-up to their 2002 smash called “Gone” for Nelly’s new album, due next year. The song, which Nelly calls “DL Part 2,” was co-produced by Jim Jonsin and Rico Love. Check out their studio session below….

Grammy nominee, Melanie Fiona says she’ll be working through the holiday…

“I’m working on Christmas Day, which sounds crappy,” Fiona tells Rap-Up.com about performing on the holiday. “But it’s just one day, and if that’s the day my fans want to see me on, then I’m there.”

Despite being booked on December 25, the “It Kills Me” songstress still plans to spend time with her loved ones during the holiday season while at a family reunion in Florida, and hopes to incorporate some of her favorite family traditions.

“My family is Guyanese, so every Christmas morning we have pepperpot and garlic beef or garlic pork, and my mom makes homemade bread,” the Toronto native says. “Anything to do with my heritage is what is my fondest memory… All the crazy stuff that comes with being West Indian, I love it.”

V-H-1’s new reality series “Fantasia: For Real” will premiere on January 11th. The eight-episode, 30-minute series goes behind the scenes into her post American Idol life, showing how she deals with life on the road, balancing being a mother and an artist, and how she creates new music. You can catch a sneak peek of the season’s first episode on VH1.com the week before the premiere.

In other news, word is that producer Jermaine Dupri wants to be on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars”. According to reports, Jermaine, who actually started off his career as a dancer, has contacted producers and asked to a part of next season’s cast.

Former track star Marion Jones is hoping to re-enter the sports world, but this time as a basketball player!!

Jones, who was released from federal prison over a year ago following a doping scandal, announced on Monday in San Antonio, Texas that she’s planning to sign with a team in the W-N-B-A.

Jones was initially skeptical when she got a call from league officials, but, she says, “I thought it would be an interesting journey if I decided to do this… It would give me an opportunity to get a second chance. I think I can be an asset to a franchise, so…why not?”

The Wofford family of Encinitas, California got the house of the dreams after appearing on A-B-C’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Now they’re in danger of losing that home., who got the house five years ago, say they’re facing foreclosure. Brian Wofford, a widower and father of eight says, “A lot of people think when you get the house, you get the mortgage. Well, you don’t.” This isn’t the first time an Extreme Makeover family has gotten into financial trouble. At least five other families have lost or been forced to sell the homes they won on the show.
