Out with the old and in with the new…..

Could the days of women being “homemakers” and men being “breadwinners” be a thing of the past??? According to many social statistics, women are now bringing home the bacon, and men are frying it!
Three men for every one woman have lost their jobs in this recession, according to Marie Claire magazine, and four in 10 moms now are now the primary breadwinner for the family. At the same time, about 143,000 unemployed dads of kids under the age of 15 are taking care of the kids.
With the proliferation of stay-at-home dads has come an array of support groups.
Some dads really warm up to their new lifestyle and send their wives off with a gourmet homemade lunch to work. “I’m spoiled,” Michelle Mullen says of the homemade turkey mole soup and curried beef stews that her husband packs for her.
As women spend more time in the workforce, the qualities they value in their significant other can change, said Diane Sollee, director of the Coalition for Marriage, Family and Couples Education and smartmarriages.com.
“In a way, it’s almost like bragging for a woman to say she has a stay-at-home husband,” Sollee told Marie Claire. “Not only is she the breadwinner with a great job, but she’s also got this highly evolved male person – a feminist, father and husband who doesn’t really care what the gender roles are. It’s really an elevated life form.”

This is a reality with the current state of unemployment. Sometimes it’s hard for men to fall back and swallow their “ego”….the question is could YOU do it? Could you function in your relationship if the roles were reversed??
