Must Watch: President Obama’s White House Correspondents’ Speech

obama

President Obama is currently in his second term as President of the United States of America. On Saturday night ,at the 99th Annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, he had the audience in stitches!!

DJ Khaled’s song, “All I Do Is Win” blasted from the speakers as he took to the stage and he said,

Rush Limbaugh warned you about this — second term, baby. We’re changing things around here a little bit.”

And then, in what many say was the best quip of the night, he addressed Jay-Z and Beyonce’s controversial trip to Cuba.

So, yes, maybe I have lost a step. But some things are beyond my control. For example, this whole controversy about Jay-Z going to Cuba — it’s unbelievable. I’ve got 99 problems and now Jay-Z is one.”

LOL!!!! It’s nice to see he can poke fun at himself and that situation that got a lot of criticism.

Sure there were lots of laughs, but Obama made sure to touch upon the tragedies that have happened recently in the US in which innocent lives were lost.

These have been some very hard days for too many of our citizens. Even as we gather here tonight, our thoughts are not far from the people of Boston, the people of West, Texas, and in the Midwest there are some people coping with some terrible floods.”

White House Responds to Jay-Z’s ‘Open Letter’ Obama Lyrics

 beyonce-jay-z-cuba-anniversary-650-430

There’s been a great amount of buzz surrounding Jay-Z’s new song “Open Letter,” which he released in response to the criticism he and wife Beyonce received for traveling to Cuba. The song garnered up over 500,000 listens in just a couple of hours.

Yesterday, during a White House press briefing, reporter Donovan Slack asked Jay Carney, White House Press Secretary, whether or not President Obama gave the Carters clearance to travel there, in reference to a specific section of the song. Donovan recited the lyrics,

I turned Havana into Atlanta… Boy from the hood/ I got White House clearance… Obama said, ‘Chill you gonna get me impeached/ You don’t need this s**t anyway, chill with me on the beach.”

Slack then asked Carney if Obama did in fact give Jay-Z clearance. Carney laughed it off and said,

I guess nothing rhymes with Treasury… because Treasury offers and gives licenses for travel, as you know, and the White House has nothing to do with it. I am absolutely saying that the White house from the President on down had nothing to do with anybody’s travel to Cuba that is something that Treasury handles. It’s a song, Donovan. The President did not communicate with Jay-Z over this trip.”

What do you think about Hov releasing this song? Was he in some way abusing his relationship and friendship with the President?

First Lady Michelle Obama Stuns In Jason Wu As President Obama Gives State Of The Union Address

michelle_dress_ap_605

Last night President Obama delivered the State of the Union Address and First Lady Michelle Obama stunned all in attendance wearing, yet again, a Jason Wu dress. This is the second time in under a month that Michelle has wore an outfit designed by the 30-year-old designer. Her tweed sheath dress is from Wu’s pre-Fall 2013 collection. She also donned an Alexis Bittar flower broch.

Barack Obama state of the union

Obama spoke out about jobs in America, gun control, which has proven to be an extremely serious issue that has GOT to be taken care of, as well as raising minimum wage. Some excerpts included:

On slain Chicago teen Hadiya Pendleton:

One of those we lost was a young girl named Hadiya Pendleton. She was 15 years old. She loved Fig Newtons and lip gloss. She was a majorette. She was so good to her friends, they all thought they were her best friend. Just three weeks ago, she was here, in Washington, with her classmates, performing for her country at my inauguration. And a week later, she was shot and killed in a Chicago park after school, just a mile away from my house. Hadiya’s parents, Nate and Cleo, are in this chamber tonight, along with more than two dozen Americans whose lives have been torn apart by gun violence. They deserve a vote.”

On raising minimum wage to $9:

Tonight, let’s…raise the federal minimum wage to $9.00 an hour….We’ll work to strengthen families by removing the financial deterrents to marriage for low-income couples, and doing more to encourage fatherhood – because what makes you a man isn’t the ability to conceive a child; it’s having the courage to raise one.”

On education:

Study after study shows that the sooner a child begins learning, the better he or she does down the road. But today, fewer than 3 in 10 four year-olds are enrolled in a high-quality preschool program. Tonight, I propose working with states to make high-quality preschool available to every child in America. Every dollar we invest in high-quality early education can save more than seven dollars later on – by boosting graduation rates, reducing teen pregnancy, even reducing violent crime. In states that make it a priority to educate our youngest children, like Georgia or Oklahoma, studies show students grow up more likely to read and do math at grade level, graduate high school, hold a job, and form more stable families of their own. So let’s do what works, and make sure none of our children start the race of life already behind. Let’s give our kids that chance.”

UPDATED: Marine Core Backs Off Beyonce Lip Synching Statement

Update 6:40pm:

Earlier today, Marine Corp rep, Kristin DuBois, spoke out saying that Beyonce used a pre-recorded voice track for “The National Anthem” at President Obama’s Inauguration. Now, Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Gregory Wolf said, due to the fact Beyonce had no chance to rehearse with the band, it was determined that going live with the band was “ill advised.” Therefore, they used a pre-recorded track for the band’s part of the song. Wolf’s statement continued,

Regarding Ms. Knowles-Carter’s vocal performance, no one in the Marine Band is in a position to assess whether it was live or pre-recorded.”

DuBois has declined to answer any further questions.

Michelle Obama Wows In Jason Wu Dress For Inaugural Dance With President Obama

Everytime Michelle Obama steps out in public, all eyes are on her outfits and what she’s wearing, as well as who she is wearing. Last night, she wowed the crowd at the inaugural ball wearing a gorgeous ruby chiffon and velvet gown made by Jason Wu, a 30-year-old fashion designer from New York. First Lady Michelle wore a cream-colored gown, also by Wu, four years prior for her first inaugural slow dance with husband, President Barack Obama. It must be a truly remarkable moment, yet again, for the young designer.

What did you think of Michelle’s choice??

President Obama and Michelle danced to Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” performed by Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson. She tweeted her excitement right before taking the stage,

Right now the President and First Lady will dance to Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” to be performed by… ME!!! Yes! Amazing night!”
