“Sad But True”

Trayvon Martin’s Parents Speak To Anderson Cooper

On this afternoon’s episode of “Anderson,” the parents of the tragically slain Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, will speak out on the controversy surrounding the death of their 17-year-old son. Both Sybrina and Tracy would like to see George Zimmerman charged and want to see justice.

In the clip below, Trayvon’s father said,

We don’t want to have another family go through this. We are very appreciative that the community across the nation is standing behind us and asking the same questions that we are asking. Why isn’t George Zimmerman arrested? We want an arrest, we want him to have a fair trial. We are not asking for an eye for an eye, but we want justice for our son. The only thing that will ease the pain is seeing him being punished for the crime that he committed.”

Martin also feels that race does play an issue in the this case.

I honestly believe had Trayvon been a white kid, he would have been arrested. Zimmerman would have been arrested. I just feel as though the Sanford police department is doing us an injustice. They actually are trying to sweep our son’s death under the rug. Trayvon was a person, he wasn’t just a statistic. He was loved by his family. He was loved by his friends. I just refuse to stop pursuing the arrest of Mr. Zimmerman until he is arrested.”

The shooting was less than a month ago and though Trayvon’s mom feels the police ‘sided’ with Zimmerman in the beginning, she holds onto hope that justice will prevail.

It’s a nightmare. It’s hard to sleep. Everything reminds me of him and the only thing that’s fueling us to keep pressing on for justice is the fact that we know that justice will be served… I believe that.”

In the 911 call, you can hear cries for help in the background and Sybrina says she knows that was her son.

I believe that’s Trayvon Martin, that’s my baby’s voice,” she insists. “Every mother knows their child and that’s his voice… He was afraid for his life. He saw his death coming. He saw his death coming. The screams got more frantic. At that second that we heard the shot the screams just completely stopped. He saw his death, he was pleading for his life.”

Anderson Cooper also interviews a witness, Mary, and she said what she saw after she heard the gunshots.

In my opinion it did not look like [Zimmerman] was trying to help in anyway,” she concludes. “The gun shot was to the chest and [Trayvon] was face down. He had his hands on Trayvon’s back.”

This case has gotten a lot of recognition and support from all over the country. Just last night in Union Square in NYC, hundreds came out to hold a ‘Million Hoodie March.’ Martin, a high school junior, was unarmed and wearing a hoodie when he was fatally shot.

Justice must be given to this family… they lost their son in a crime that should have NEVER happened.

The full interview airs this afternoon. Please check your local listings.

Whitney Houston Is Now ‘Singing With The Angels’

Yesterday, the final voice that family of friends of Whitney Houston heard as they remembered her life at her funeral was that of her own. “I Will Always Love You” played throughout New Hope Baptist Church, in Newark, NJ, as the star-studded crowd said their final goodbye to the musical legend.

The nearly four hour funeral brought both tears and laughter as music mogul Clive Davis, actor and friend, Kevin Costner, cousin Dionne Warwick, and Cissy Houston, Whitney’s mom, gave moving eulogies. Performances from Alicia Keys, R. KellyStevie Wonder, and BeBe and CeCe Winans. Aretha Franklin, Houston’s godmother, was due to sing as well, but due to illness did not attend.

Davis told Bobbi Kristina, Whitney’s 18-year-old daughter, “You always be proud of your mother. She loved you so much. She’ll be forever looking after you, and never let go of your hand.” Davis, who discovered Whitney first in 1983, noted, “You wait for a voice like that for a lifetime. You wait for a face like that, a smile like that, a presence like that. And when one person embodies it all well, it takes your breath away.”

Costner, Houston’s co-star in “The Bodyguard,” seemed to have it right when he said, “There’s a lady in heaven who is making God himself wonder how he created something so perfect. So off you go, Whitney. Off you go. Escorted by an army of angels and your heavenly Father. And when you sing before Him don’t worry- you’ll be good enough.”

Also in attendance was Whitney’s close friend, singer Ray J., who was said to be dating the late singer at the time of her death. He was so overcome with emotion, his sister Brandy was seen trying to offer the only thing one could at this difficult time- comfort.

Whitney Houston Funeral Will Be Held Saturday In Newark, NJ

Whitney Houston’s funeral service will be held Saturday in the New Jersey church where she first showed her singing talent. The owner of the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark said Tuesday that the funeral will be held at noon at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark. They said there will be no wake and no public memorial at Newark’s Prudential Center, the sports arena that the family had discussed as a possible venue. Carolyn Whigham said the funeral will be private for the family as, “They have shared her for 30 some years with the city, with the state, with the world. This is their time now for their farewell. The family thanks all the fans, the friends and the media, but this time is their private time.”

48-year-old Houston passed away February 11 at a hotel in Beverly Hills, hours before she was going to perform at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy Awards party. She is said to have been found underwater and unconscious when she was pulled out of a bathtub.

Whitney’s body was flown from Los Angeles to New Jersey via Tyler Perry’s private jet and arrived late last night. Her family has not yet disclosed any funeral plans other than to say it will be in Newark.

An autopsy took place Sunday and there are no indications of foul play but toxicology results can take 4-6 weeks.

Just a tragic story to report…
