For a few weeks now, Los Angeles Laker star Kobe Bryant and his mom Pamela have been fighting over Pam’s decision to sell some of his old memorabilia. According to ESPN, Pamela will write a letter of apology to Kobe and for that, Kobe, in return, will let her and Joe (Kobe’s dad) sell off about 10% of the items. His parents letter stated,
We regret our actions and statements related to the Kobe Bryant auction memorabilia. We apologize for any misunderstanding and unintended pain we have caused our son and appreciate the financial support he has provided over the years. We also apologize to Goldin Auctions for their inadvertent involvement in this matter and thank them for their assistance.”
Well, glad that is resolved. I am sure his parents will still make out with a good profit.
For the first time, Jay-Z is speaking out about selling his share in the Brooklyn Nets and this week he’s officially made his departure from the franchise. He’s given up his ownership in order to pursue his new business of Roc Nation Sports. This morning he wrote on his Life+Times website to explain,
Being a member of the Nets organization surpassed some of my greatest ambitions. It was never about an investment; it was about the NETS and Brooklyn. My job as an owner is over but as a fan it has just begun. I’m a Brooklyn Net forever. It’s been an honor to work with Mikhail Prokhorov, Dmitry Razumov, Christophe Charlier, ONEXIM Sports and Entertainment, Brett Yormark and all the wonderful people involved in making the Nets first class. My sincerest thanks goes to Bruce Ratner, who first introduced the idea of moving the Nets to Brooklyn. A thank you and deepest appreciation goes to the fans. You are the lifeblood of any team.
The Nets have made their mark on the NBA and as they enter a new era, Roc Nation does as well; as we embark on Roc Nation Sports. Our newest endeavor is committed to building the brands of professional athletes as we have done for some of today’s top music artists. For Roc Nation Sports to function at its full potential, NBA rules stipulate that I relinquish my ownership in the Brooklyn Nets. It was a tough decision but as I stated earlier, it’s not about ownership. Congratulations to The Nets on a great season and making the playoffs! I will always be a Brooklyn Net.”
So far, Hov has signed New York Yankees player Robinson Cano and Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz to his agency.
started the process of divesting his small share of ownership with the Brooklyn Nets to extend his Roc Nation Sports representation business into basketball. The process is expected to be completed in time for Roc Nation to compete for players entering the June NBA draft.”
Jay owns less than 1% of the organization. Last week he announced the launch of Roc Nation Sports and seems to be adding sports agent to his long list of occupations. The NBA rules state that you cannot continue ownership in a team and represent individual players as well, so it looks as though Hov is making a choice.
New York Yankee Robinson Cano was the first athlete the first to sign with Roc Nation Sports.
It was the 2013 NBA All-Star weekend in Houston, Texas and Grammy-winning R&B stars Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Ne-Yo all hit the stage.
Legend sang “The Star Spangled Banner” with that soulful voice of his that we know and love before tip-off.
Ne-Yo took to the stage as the East and the West were being introduced, and got the crowd rockin’ with “Let’s Go,” “Let Me Love You” and “Forever Now.”
Keys headlined the halftime show, singing her hit “Empire State of Mind” followed with “Girl On Fire,” “No One” and lastly, closing with “New Day.”
This past weekend, Alicia Keys performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl in New Orleans, and was then criticized for her “lounge-style” rendition AND for sitting down at the piano during the song.
Regardless of all that hoopla, the NBA chose Keys to perform at halftime for its All-star game. John Legend will perform the Star-Spangled Banner and Ne-Yo will perform as the players take the court. Nick Cannon will host All-Star Saturday (February 16th).
The game will take place in Houston on February 17th.
You can catch Alicia this Sunday at the Grammys when she performs with Maroon 5. The busy lady then sets off on her world tour, Set The World On Fire, in March. Miguel will be joining her.
Beyonce has given new meaning to the term ‘lights out.’
Following her amazing Super Bowl halftime show performance, the Mercedes-Benz Superdome went dark. For about 30 minutes, half of the stadium was in the dark and many are jokingly saying that Bey’s performance caused a power outage. It was rumored that people felt the superstar had something to prove following her performance at President Obama’s inauguration because she sang with a backing track. Seriously? Those people must be kidding. Beyonce is one of the best performers and singers of our generation and that should never be questioned. Last night’s performance was absolutely brilliant. Non-stop dancing, a lot of hair whipping, that voice, and of course, she looked gorgeous!!
Twitter was a buzz as Destiny’s Child reunited on stage and that alone generated over 5.5 million tweets. Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined Bey for a few old school DC hits.
Here are some celeb tweets about Bey’s performance:
