Balloon Boy Hoax A Bust!!!!

Officers from the Larimer County Sheriff Department showed up at the Heene home with a search warrant late Saturday night.

Authorities now believe the incident was a hoax cooked up by the Heene family to bring them publicity and get them cast in a reality T-V show. In a statement yesterday, Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said that he had documents showing that an unnamed media outlet agreed to pay the family for the balloon incident. Alderden said that although charges haven’t yet been filed, he “believes at some point we will be presenting a case filing to the district attorney.” The most severe charges the family faces are felonies, and carry a maximum reported sentence of six years in prison and a 500-thousand-dollar fine. Authorities could seek restitution for the costs of mobilizing the chase of the balloon and searching for the boy — costs Larimer has yet to determine.

A statement released last night by the Heenes attorney, David Lane, said the couple are “more than willing to voluntarily turn themselves in to face any charges” and that he wants “to avoid the public spectacle and humiliation of having the police arrest two people who are presumed innocent, perhaps even in the presence of their children.”

Falcon Heene, a-k-a “The Balloon Boy,” appeared with his family on Friday’s Today show and vomited during Meredith Vieira’s live interview (:53 second mark). The funniest part is the look of disgust from his father Richard, who tries to continue talking after his son just puked in his lap.

Sad thing is….I can actually see some network giving these wack jobs a reality show based off of the publicity alone!

  2. When the news broke, like the world,I felt for the boy,and then the family.
But as the story unfolded, the truth came out,and the cost has yet to be evaluated.
If it transpires to be an elaborate publicity stunt by the family, then they must face the full force of the law,for their actions.
