Jennifer Hudson is helping kids get ready for the new school year all while honoring the memory of her late nephew, Julian D. King, who was tragically murdered along with Hudson’s mother and brother in 2008.
Along with her sister Julia, they hosted the first ever Hatch Day on behalf of the Julian D. King Gift foundation at the De La Salle Institute.
Hudson said her nephew always loved school and it feels good to help peers his age.
It feels good to give back to children as he was a child. And also to help inspire your kids — that’s one of the things that helped me growing up to know that, ‘Wow if this is in my presence, then I can achieve and I can do it, too,’ and we want to send out that same message to the youth of today.”
David Daniel Otunga Jr., Hudson’s adorable son, was also on hand as volunteers wore shirts that read “Happy 10th Birthday Julian” while passing out supplies. Aww…
Jennifer and her sister hope next year will be even bigger! It’s always great to see people giving back and helping the people of the future…children.
