IS THIS REALLY MAIA CAMPBELL??? SAY IT AIN’T SO…

To This………

I would love to say that this prostitute is not actress Maia Campbell…………but I just can’t.

For years there have been rumors of the one time starlet sinking into a bottomless pit of prostitution and drugs. I cast them all away as lies until her own mother, the now deceased Bebe Moore Campbell, spoke out against her.

Maia Campbell and her mother, who succumbed to brain cancer,  were rumored to be estranged throughout the years. She is believed to be the subject of her last book ’72 Hour Hold,’ which deals with mentall illness.

In an interview with AOL Black Voices, one of her last, the NAACP Image Award winning author commented, “watching my loved one become violent and an incoherent stranger certainly tested my faith. My very close family member has bipolar disorder, which is a mood disorder – a disease of the brain.”

Shortly after that comment was made,  a man named Kevin Taylor  filed a police report accusing Campbell of stealing his Jeep in Germantown, Philadelphia.

According to Taylor and his friend  Steve Johnson, “the pair left Campbell and the car keys alone in the white 1998 Jeep Cherokee registered to Taylor’s father, Christ Taylor, as they went into Johnson’s home to retrieve musical gear. When they came outside minutes later, Campbell and the car were gone, they said.”

To top it off, nude amateur photos surfaced of Maia that were allegedly taken by a “client” of hers. He claimed she took the photos for a quick hit of cocaine and a few dollars. Several stories similar to this began to be leaked to entertainment blog sites regarding the same.

This whole ordeal is heartbreaking. I’ll bet her mother is rolling over in her grave.

  1. wow thats something else gorgeous e”’

  2. OH…LORD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP HER…YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE DEMONS IN HER EYES WHEN THE CAMERA COMES IN FOR A CLOSE UP…

  3. OMG, smh! I can only pray….

  4. I know I’m always crackin’ but this is truly sad…:(

  5. WOW, I looked at he video… and all I could is do is say wow. He’s taking video of her and also knowing who she is and the good amount of people that she’s worked with that if they saw her like that… They would hopefully HELP… like Luvly Brown said You can see the demons in her eyes, because she was always on of those people that you always could see her realness in her. I just wonder what Debbie Allen would say if she saw this video… OMG, if LL Cool J saw the video. I think they would both try to find her and Help. My prayer go straight to her heart… hoping on day soon that she finds her way. ;-)

  6. This is a prime example of why we cannot excel as a people. This blog should have enough respect for the people it is reporting about to find out the truth. Maia Campbell is mentally ill with bipolar. You made mention of her mother being Bebe Campbell but forgot to add that her life work was devoted to mental health issues. It is despicable for you, Egypt, to say her actions and behavior is caused by drugs alone. Do your research. You especially as a black woman should have respect for Maia and not report of he say she say. Help her. Pray for Her. Love her as you would love yourself.

  7. @PainfullySaddened : Egypt did acknowledge her mental illness. apparently you issed that part of the dialog:

In an interview with AOL Black Voices, one of her last, the NAACP Image Award winning author commented, “watching my loved one become violent and an incoherent stranger certainly tested my faith. My very close family member has bipolar disorder, which is a mood disorder – a disease of the brain.

  8. Why isn’t anyone saying anything about the people that are filming her? They are just as sad to sit there and laugh and exploit her instead of trying to help her. That is another reason why we cannot excel as a people as Painfully saddened said.

  9. @scriptwriter1970: Egypt say, “For years there have been rumors of the one time starlet sinking into a bottomless pit of prostitution and drugs. I cast them all away as lies until her own mother, the now deceased Bebe Moore Campbell, spoke out against her.”

The root of the problem is not drugs, it is mental illness. Her mother was not speaking out against her. She was speaking for her. This women lived with the pain of living with someone with bipolar. Word choice is key when reporting. If we report with a negative tone, then how do we think those outside of our community will report.

  10. (argghh) a tad bit frustrated @PainfullySaddened. Why can’t people read the post before commenting?? I do and did acknowledge that Maia suffers from bipolar disease. Please re read. I also said that I was saddened and in disbelief about her condition. I was NOT making fun of her. This is a sad state of affairs.

  11. This is sad, but drug abuse affects the rich and the poor , black and white. Drug addiction will bring you all the way down and will make you succumb to any/everything to get it if you do not have the money of your own. Addiction is truly sad and its terrible for the addict as well as the family/friends who watch their loved ones struggle with this. Its easy for us to offer help but the person has to truly want to help themselves because drug addiction is very very hard for people to overcome. I, along with many others, have watched the effects of drugs within my own family. And of course, no one plans to be addicted to drugs but all of us handle life many challenges different and different situations make some people reach out for things others won’t.

  12. I think her mother was Bebe Moore Campbell!
I swear, this is one time I really wish one of those racist cops would swoop down and rain pain on those brothers!

I really hope someone intervenes; I’m not sure she can do it by herself! This is one time I’d not mind Oprah or even Tyra stepping “up and in!”

  13. But wait, this isn’t really a case of someone “on drugs”, per se, no, it’s more about someone with a disease and therefore, UNABLE able to help themselves.

Obviously, she’s crying out in pain FOR help, NO? Of course she is, that said, if someone calls the state and forces her into a program, ANY program, wouldn’t said program FORCE her to take her medication? It might be cruel, but ANYTHING is better than what I saw!

Real Talk –>> Bi-polar disorder, manic depression and related mental “ailments/illness” WILL be brought to fore; ALOT of the military personnel returning from Iraq/Afghanistan are beginning to show said neurosis!

  14. Maia is a beautiful person and will always be. She is in despearte need of medical help. Egypt please repost followups to this story. I hope for the best for her. I work in the mental health field and all too often hear about the trouble of people who are just like her. When people discontinue their medication regiments, they self-medicate sometimes with drugs. If she wasn’t mentally ill, she might have never turned to drugs. We must stay positive. God is watching out for her.

  15. This is extremely sad. Since I found out about this yesterday I can’t stop thinking about this poor Woman. Of course I remember her from back in the day and how beautiful she was and I believe that God can heal Maia I really do. I wish that a bunch of people who are concerned for her could find her and help her.

To the dudes filming her what a terrible shame that they think so little of a Woman especially a Black Woman but really any Woman going through this and them actually enjoying filming her. It’s beyond sad and horrible. Imagine if that were one of their family members would they want that all over the internet? Of course not so why do it to her? I’m ashamed of those men who participated in that. My heart is heavy and I’ll continue to pray for Maia. She’s a person…a human being.

  16. Such a sad sad time for her… I feel really bad for her and the millions of other people who struggle with mental illness/drug abuse. I pray that she accepts help from anyone that offers. I do believe that in addition to being bipolar she also appears to be under the influence of some kind of drug. While I do acknowledge her illness, do understand that any drug use/abuse can intensify psychosis including bipolar, depression, schizo, etc. This is a mental illness that has been around for a long time and responds well to medical treatment. This is a fact and has been documented for years in medical journals etc. She can easily lead a “normal” life if she stays with a medical/counseling regime. Unfortunately, she will have to be an active participant in her recovery.

  17. Lord, have mercy Jesus. I had to stop wathching. Literally. Those demons were just as BOLD as day…showing themselves!!! I will pray for her!!!

  18. This is a prime example of why it is sooooo important to watch the company you keep!!!

  19. I dont think that is her in the video. I think that is a girl that just looks like her. I mean I know she has been through some things but her face doesn’t even remotely look the same and I’ve seen pictures of her after the downward spiral and she still looked like herself.
