The Full Rihanna 20/20 Interview You’ve Been Waiting For!
On Her Family History Of Violence:
“I said to myself, ‘I’m never gonna date someone like my dad,’ ” Rihanna told Sawyer. “Never.” The singer said her father was severely abusive to her mother in the past and hit her “numerous” times. She said she would unsuccessfully try to break up their fights, attempting to distract the pair by breaking glasses and dishes in the kitchen. The singer said her father even broke her mother’s nose.
On Loving Chris:
Rihanna painted the picture of her and Brown’s early days together as filled with happiness. She said the “Forever” singer was her best friend but cautioned that falling in love with your best friend can be “scary.”
“The more in love we became, the more dangerous we became for each other, equally as dangerous,” she said, describing their relationship as an obsession. She said on the night Brown assaulted her, she was happy and alcohol did not play a part in influencing his or her behavior.
On What Caused The Fight:
Rihanna confirmed that a text message from a girl Brown had a previous relationship with was at the root of their argument that night. She said Brown lied about the message and that she would not let him off the hook. “He had his back against the wall,” she said.
The pair left a pre-Grammy party and soon found themselves arguing in a residential district in Brown’s rented Lamborghini.
On The Blow For Blow:
“It escalated into him being violent toward me, and it was ugly,” she said, clearing her throat. She said Brown punched her and bit her repeatedly. She said she was also choked, but not to the point of near unconsciousness, although she said she did have trouble breathing. “All I kept thinking was, ‘When is it going to stop?’ ” she told Sawyer of the escalating violence. She admitted Brown threatened to kill her, as well, but she told Sawyer he “was saying it to scare me.”
“At that point, I just didn’t know what could happen,” she continued. “He was clearly blacked out. There was no person when I looked at him. It was almost as if he had nothing to lose. He had so much to lose. But it was almost as if he had nothing to lose. It wasn’t the same person that says I loved you. It definitely wasn’t those eyes.”
“It was ugly,” she said. “I fended him off with my feet…but it was not like, it was not like a fight with each other. I just…I really just wanted it to stop,” she said.

On The Aftermath:
Finally, Rihanna said, her screams prompted a to call the police. “I was bleeding, I was swollen in the face,” she said. “So there was no way of me getting home, except for, my next option was to get out of the car and walk. Start walking in a gown, in a bloody face. So I really don’t know what my plan was.”
On Trying To Reconcile:
Rihanna briefly reunited with Brown in Miami approximately a month following the assault. She said she wanted to protect Brown, as fans were turning against him. But Rihanna was conflicted even as she attempted to reassure Brown. “Everything about him annoyed me,” she said.
He asked her if Rihanna hated him, she recalled. She said she didn’t, but she actually resented him. According to her, this was the point where she realized she had to end their relationship.
On Why She Decided To Talk:
“Even if Chris never hit me again, who is to say that their boyfriend won’t?” Rihanna said during the interview, calling her decision to reconcile with Brown “selfish.” “Who’s to say that they won’t kill these girls? These are young girls, and I just didn’t realize how much of an impact I had on these girls’ lives until that happened. It was a wake-up call. I’m glad it happed to me,” Rihanna said. ” ‘Cause now I can help young girls. [I would tell them] ‘Don’t react off of love.’ F love. Come out of the situation and look at it third-person and for what it really is. And then make your decision. ‘Cause love is so blind. It’s so blind.”
On Whether or Not She Would Take Chris Back:
Rihanna, however, claims to have never heard the record. She said she still has feelings for Brown and wants him to be successful, but she seems to be struggling to comprehend her emotions, calling it an annoyance to still feel connected to him. She told Sawyer she was unsure if she could ever reunite with him.
“I can’t answer that question right now, ’cause you never know what the future holds,” she explained. “He was my best friend, the person I loved. We spent two years of our lives together. “I don’t have a desire at all to be with him,” she added. “I don’t see how we could get back together. But I’m not God, so I can’t predict the future.”
“I want him to accept this as a man would,” she said. “Accept the responsibility and find a way to not feel sorry for himself.”

This mess is so set up for her album release. I’m tired of hearing about chris and rihanna. It was so february. Move on with ur lives and let them have their careers. Peope act like this is the first time someone has been assulted…..does tina turner ring a bell. She won’t be the last person to be hit. Let the man get to his life. Forgive and forget! And remember that women abuse men as well. It can happen both ways. SO JUST GET OVER IT!!!!
i been a person of this violence and i think she just trying to help her album because in the nterview she is covering up things like she going to say it but she cut herself off from saying what really happened cuz if he is driving how is he choking hitting and doing all this other stuff without him stopping the car but i believe she hit him first
Oh my goodness ppl, so what if this is aligned with her album. If u didn’t realize, this is the FIRST time she has publicly spoken about the incident, where as chris has been on LArry King, youtube video and now MTV and he also has an album. At least she reveals what EVERYONE has been questioning and wondering all freakin year long where chris roams around it and apologizes perfusly. It going to be 2010 soon, let’s be at peace with it.

That’s Their Business. None of them didn’t HAVE to say ANYTHING.. They don’t Owe us these stories.
Nonetheless, It wouldnt make me buy her album or not buy it either..
Now, If she had a DISS about CB, and was talkin about it on her interview, Yeah, then, I’d see the scandal.. LOL
I cried when she expressed the struggle between stay/ go/ responsibility both personal and public… she is still a very young woman and not one person has the intellect (of all these comments) to acknowledge what a challenge this was for her. I too feel embarrassed as to the extent I freely gave my “unconditional” love at that age… when I think back to moments where I punched – yes the 1st hit – but only because you knew it was coming anyway and the anxiety of the anticipated “when” subconsciously hurts so much you manifest the situation in order to control it… Soooo many young women fall into this cycle – so blinded not so much by “love” because lets face it – this is not love in any way shape or form – but rather blinded by the propaganda that we’re fed from the moment our eyes can see that we are by Gods will designed to nurture and be solely responsible for our male counter parts happiness. If he is angry – RAVING MAD – it’s her fault because she aggravated him… and even if she didn’t its fault because it is her role as the nurturer to ensure he is happy, fed and content.
When she ended the interview saying ‘I just want him to be happy, successful and accept responsibility for his actions like a man and stop finding a way to play victim… she hit the nail on the head… and at her ripe young age I commend her for being so brave, intelligent and still maintain the childlike beauty inside herself – she is amazing, she is stunning, she is a superstar like no other and I’m not a record buying kinda gal – I really don’t care for material things I figure I hear enough free stuff on the radio – why pay for it? But she deserves all the accolades and blessing coming her way for not only working through her the challenges she was faced with at such a young tender age but to have to endure such challenges in the public eye…. Pffft! I was too embarrassed to go to work with my bruises – she had to face the WORLD with hers.
Seriously, stop buying your little girls “Barbie’s” and baby dolls that need to be fed, and nappies changed! Its ridiculous… buy them trucks… toys that teach them different languages… toys that teach our young women of tomorrow that they are more than nurturers… they are the backbone to our communities and can change the world – the damage caused by self destructive men who destroyed the true essence of humanity with their primitive antics (Bush)

She finally come out and spoke about what everyone has been questioning… But why now?! Why right b4 her album drops?! Is it b/c she wants ppl to feel sorry for her and have piety for her?! I strongly believe she isn’t telling the entire story… she told the viewers what she wanted them to know… She isn’t innocent at all… she def threw Chris under the bus and I felt like she could have gave him the same respect he gave her as far as putting it all out there… this mess happened 9 months ago… She did this interview with hopes her album will sell better than last year!
