Nia Long Would Be ‘Honored’ To Have A Part In Aretha Franklin Biopic

Aretha Franklin has approved a treatment for her upcoming biopic and is said to have ordered a script as well.

The cast so far that Franklin has picked includes Dorothy Norwood, Karen Clark and La Shun Pace to play the Clara Ward singers. Actress Nia Long recently covered ESSENCE and marvels at the very thought of being a part of the film.

I would be ever so honored. She’s an icon and I’m sure there’s more to her story than the world knows.”

Long was named on Franklin’s actress wishlist, but hasn’t been contacted to take part thus far. She did have a message she wanted to send to the iconic Queen of Soul,

Aretha, if you’re out there and you’re reading, count me in!”

The release that Franklin’s rep put out said the singer is currently negotiating with producers and directors and says the film will be “an epic tale with probably the most starring and supporting roles since Roots.”

Jennifer Hudson and Audra McDonald are said to still be in the running for the lead role.

Who do you think Aretha should cast as the lead? Are you rooting for Nia?
