UPDATED: Marine Core Backs Off Beyonce Lip Synching Statement

Update 6:40pm:
Earlier today, Marine Corp rep, Kristin DuBois, spoke out saying that Beyonce used a pre-recorded voice track for “The National Anthem” at President Obama’s Inauguration. Now, Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Gregory Wolf said, due to the fact Beyonce had no chance to rehearse with the band, it was determined that going live with the band was “ill advised.” Therefore, they used a pre-recorded track for the band’s part of the song. Wolf’s statement continued,
Regarding Ms. Knowles-Carter’s vocal performance, no one in the Marine Band is in a position to assess whether it was live or pre-recorded.”
DuBois has declined to answer any further questions.

The story from this afternoon, when the story first broke, follows below:
A rep for the U.S Marine Corp Band, who provides the music for the Inauguration, is saying that Beyonce did not sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” live and instead lip-synched to a pre-recorded track. Kelly Clarkson, who performed “My Country Tis of Thee” did not use a backing track, according to the rep.
It is standard procedure to record a backing track before a live performance as this, and Kristin DuBois, a rep for the United States Marine Band, explains:
All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day. We performed, live, the band. But we received last-minute word that Beyonce was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track. Those were the instructions we were given. We don’t know what the reason why.”
Though the U.S. Marine rep is confirming this, I still find it hard to completely believe, because as you watched her performance, it legitimately looked as though she was singing live. She even pulled out her ear piece at one point. I hope people don’t come down hard on Beyonce for this, because the reality of it is that we ALL know she can sing, and she can sing flawlessly. Whatever her reasons may have been to sing with a pre-recorded track, if that is what happened, it was still HER voice and the performance was such a beautiful moment.
You can watch her performance here.
What do you think? Are you shocked about this? Sound off.
