Since the NBA Finals are in full swing, a few of you ladies (or unfortunately men) may be feeling a little left out with your significant others watching the games.  I will give you some terms so that you have a clue what he’s talking about when he uses basketball terms.

The good thing is there are only 5 positions in basketball.  Football & baseball have way more so it’s easier to understand.  Here are the positions.

Point Guard-Also referred to as PG, the 1, or “lead guard”

Shooting Guard-Also referred to as SG, the 2, or a “wing player”

Small Forward-Also referred to as SF, the 3, or a “wing player”

Power Forward-Also referred to as PF, the 4, or a “big”

Center-Also referred to as C, the 5, or a “big”

The person recognized as the best PG is Chris Paul

The person recognized as the best SG is Kobe Bryant

The person recognized as the best SF is Lebron James

The person recognized as the best PF is Tim Duncan

The person recognized as the best C is Dwight Howard OR Yao Ming

Below are some jargon definitions that will give you a better feel for the game.

The Rock-a basketball

Crash the Boards-go get a rebound

Handle-ability to dribble

Good Look-nice pass

Glass-the backboard

Push the ball-play offense faster

I hope this provides a little insight into the game; any more questions can be left in the comments and will be answered.

My question is if all basketball players are tall, why teams who even get a small player? Small players don’t work in basketball

  2. Jay says:

My question is, what is a pick and roll?

  3. Tyrone says:

Small guys usually handle the ball better, most point guards are 6′3 to 6′, not short for life, short for basketball, The pick and roll is when 1 player comes and sets a screen for the ball handler, the screener then goes towards the basket, when his man jumps out on the ball handler he is usually left open. the pick and roll is the single hardest thing to defend in the sport
