Gold Medal Olympic Gymnast Gabby Douglas Responds To Hair Critics

16-year-old USA gymnastics gold medalist Gabby Douglas made history last week when she became the first African American to win a gold medal in gymnastics all-around. Apparently the critics seemed to look past that fact and went in at her for her hair. I see nothing wrong with her hair. She had it pulled back into a ponytail and a few clips while competing. Think about it- she’s flipping around at full speed- what would they want her hair to look like?!
Douglas got word of all the talk when she logged into her computer yesterday and saw that people were debating over her pulled-back look. She had this to say:
I don’t know where this is coming from. What’s wrong with my hair? I’m like,`I just made history and people are focused on my hair?’ It can be bald or short, it doesn’t matter about (my) hair.”
Douglas said the hairstyle she wears hasn’t changed in years and people better just get used to it.
Nothing is going to change. I’m going to wear my hair like this during beam and bar finals. You might as well just stop talking about it.”
This adorable girl should be enjoying her wins and her medals, not having to worry about what the haters are saying about something so miniscule in the big scheme of things. She just made history!!!!
I don’t think people should be worried about that. We’re all champions and we’re all winners. I just say that it’s kind of, a stupid and crazy thought to think about my hair.”
Spoken like a true champ!!!!
