MLB Baseball: Do You Care?

mlb

Now that basketball season is over, we are 100% into baseball season.  Training camps for football don’t start for another month and the preseason games won’t start until a couple of weeks after that. So for 6 weeks it is baseball only (the WNBA is not a sport).

This baseball season has been pretty exciting, but my question is does the African-American community care? I’m a big sports fan and watch at least part of a MLB game everyday, but I am finding that less and less Black people are playing and watching the game. I think that it’s a shame because baseball provides certain things that no other sport does.

For those who may be behind I will do a quick refresher course on the season so far so that you catch up and start watching the games. The 1st place teams in the American League are the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In the National League teams in 1st place are the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The MLB All-Star Game is on July 14th.

My question again is do you care about baseball?

  1. Well I watch football because I lobe the men running up and down..ummm..lol But who cares about baseball.. Not to be rude but I believe Baseball is so wack. I can not sit down for to long and watch it …its boring…

  2. WNBA is not a sport……??? WT ??

  3. LMFAO @ WNBA is not a sport!im a female and i AGREE 100% with that statement! Its not even worth watching!just pure GARBAGE!but umm no baseball is not my thing either

  4. I def support baseball, especially The World Champion Phillies. I think that African American support is increasing, especially among my peer group. Go Phillies!!!

  5. I definitely support baseball as well. I love my team, St. Louis Cardinals and Around my way a lot of African Americans support baseball.

  6. First, WNBA is a sport. Though I don’t always watch it, I think it has been a little too easy to make fun of the league.

Anyway, I do, have always, and will always care about baseball. I am actually flipping between two baseball games as I type this. I have always been into the sport (grew up playing) and while I notice the lack of Blacks, it is not something that would make me stop watching the sport. Baseball is the ultimate team sport. Great pitching or great hitting alone is not enough to win it.

However, I do have a hard time finding people to go to games with (Ex. I have 4 VIP seats for a Nats game of my choice and it is tough finding 3 people that would appreciate the experience, but I digress). My teams are my hometown O’s and the Braves (since I was a kid). I’ve already seen the O’s once this year so I look forward to seeing the Braves when they come to DC. One day, I plan to own season tickets. So yes, I care very much about baseball, lol.

PS can’t stand the Phils, lol.
