SPORTS WEEKEND RUNDOWN: McNair Murdered, Serena Tops Venus
This 4th of July weekend was both historic and tragic. The historic part was on Saturday in England where Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus at Wimbledon by the scores of 7-6, 6-2. It was Serena’s first Wimbledon title in six years, Venus was denied her third straight title. Serena now has 11-grand slams and there is talk of her making a run at the all time record of 18. Serena 100% has the talent to do it but I doubt she stays interested in the game long enough to get to that number.
On a tragic note, former NFL MVP Steve McNair was gunned down in his Nashville apartment on Saturday along with a female companion. I won’t get into the details of the murder as they are up already on the site, but I feel that people should remember the great play of McNair on the field as well as how much he gave back to the community. As a person who has met McNair I will say that he was always a gentleman and one of the best athletes to cover in the NFL.
