EGYPT SHERROD has won over countless listeners with her dynamic delivery and magnetic mix of sass and class. But at the same time, her strong faith and solid family values has made her one of the most grounded and approachable multi-media talents to come along in a while. It’s no wonder that the HGTV host and Atlanta radio personality, is destined for greatness. Egypt’s positive outlook on life and compassion for others has set her on a path to uplift the various communities she serves.
Masterful at balancing family life and an exciting and full career, she can be heard weekdays hosting her “On Air With Egypt” on Atlanta’s top rated V103, where every day her primary goal is to entertain and inspire. Whether it’s giving advice based on her personal journey, or encouraging listeners to live life to the fullest, Egypt is thankful to have the opportunity to touch so many folks. “I feel extremely blessed to talk to millions of people a day. God put me in this position for a reason,” she says. “It’s a privilege to be a conduit for positive change.”
In addition to her buoyant radio career, Egypt is the host of HGTV’s highly rated “Property Virgins,” makes several guest tv appearances as a pop-culture expert on CNN & HLN, and runs a successful entertainment news & lifestyle blog EgyptSaidSo.com. Viewers also recognize Egypt as the co-host of “Home Delivery” now airing in syndication on the Ion Network, and as the special correspondent for NBC Universal’s top rated “The Maury Show.”
This award-winning broadcast talent is also known as former host of the Power 105.1 morning show in the #1 ranked media market in the country, New York City. Egypt has been a staple on radio stations in other major cities like 100.3 The Beat in Philadelphia and 92Q in Baltimore. “When people ask me if I’m a radio “jock,” my answer is no, I’m just me, but I happen to be on the radio or on TV,” says Egypt. “I promised myself that I didn’t want to be another talking head. I’m really just having a conversation throughout the day with my listeners. A heart-to-heart talk like we’re old friends or first cousins.”
People often remark that Egypt is like family to them. That’s because she exudes an undeniable warmth balanced with a rare sincerity and candor that naturally connects her to both listeners and celebrities. She regularly interviews a-listers such as the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Prince, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, Russell Crowe, Will Smith, Diane Keaton, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kelly Ripa, John Travolta, Mariah Carey, Tyler Perry, P. Diddy, Janet Jackson and Jamie Foxx.
Egypt has been featured in Essence, Rolling Stone, The New York Daily News, Time Out New York, Black Enterprise Magazine, The Source Magazine, VIBE Magazine, Rolling Out, Today’s Black Woman, Today’s Black Man, and various other publications. She also received the “Executive to Watch” Award from NABFEME (National Association of Black Female Executives in Music & Entertainment) as well as the Mission Award from WEEN (Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network).
While her plate may sound full, that doesn’t stop Egypt from making time to fulfill one of her deepest passions—giving back. She’s a committed philanthropist with a huge heart, ready to tackle serious issues in underserved communities and make a substantial difference in the lives of others. Her namesake, the “Egypt Cares Family Foundation,” was founded to aid in bridging the socio-economic gaps within the urban family structure on several different levels. “There are basic needs every family has that are fundamental to ensuring generational prosperity and long term stability,” she explains. “My goal is to give the community resources to make families healthier, happier and stronger.” Egypt’s foundation will be hosting financial seminars and clinics to educate families on retirement planning, investing & home ownership, as well as forums on health issues like diabetes and cholesterol.
Each year, she sponsors the “Egypt’s Give Back Tour,” a successful coat and toy drive. Last year, the foundation managed to put coats on over 1,000 residents, and deliver truckloads of toys to less fortunate families during the holiday season. For Egypt, the gratifying feeling of making such a powerful impact on the lives of these families has been priceless. “Sometimes we think we can’t make a difference, but we can. If you contribute and your neighbor contributes and we all do something collectively, then we can truly make a difference. We need to start asking ourselves, ‘How can I serve? How can I contribute? What imprint can I leave on this world for my sisters and brothers?’ For me, where I am in my life, I know that God is working through me.”
