The tragic and sudden killing of innocent 17-year-old Trayvon Martin is still an ongoing case, but people all over the country have shown their support to honor his memory.

Celebs such as Chaka Khan, Eric Benet, Kelly Price, Boris Kodjoe, Angela Bassett and more re-recorded Chaka’s “Super Life” as a tribute song and PSA in honor of Trayvon. On March 25th, actors, singers, and musicians, got together at Hollywood’s Henson recording studios, which is where “We Are the World” was recorded in 1985.

Everyone wore white t-shirts, all the same, that read: “Super Life — Fear Kills, Love Heals.”

Angela Bassett has signed on to replace Halle Berry in the upcoming Broadway play, ‘The Mountaintop.’ Berry had to pull out of the role because of the child custody battle with her ex.

The Mountaintop re-envisions the events that happened to Martin Luther King on the night before his assassination in 1968. Bassett will take on the role of a mysterious hotel maid who visits him in Memphis the night before his death.

Samuel L. Jackson will be making his Broadway debut in his role as the civil rights leader.

Producers Jean Doumanian and Sonia Friedman said in a statement,

These two remarkable actors have excited audiences around the world for many years, and bringing them together in this extraordinary new play on Broadway promises to be a major highlight of the season.”

The Mountaintop will be making its Broadway debut on October 13, with performances beginning September 22 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City.

Author Terry McMillan announced recently via Twitter that “Getting to Happy,” (the follow-up to her best seller “Waiting to Exhale”) will be hitting the big screen!

She tweeted recently,

We are working on the script for HAPPY. Will know in about a month or so when we’ll begin production. Probably on screens in 2012.”

There have been reports that Loretta Devine, Lela Rochon and Angela Bassett have confirmed to reprise their roles. The only one yet to confirm is diva Whitney Houston. But McMillan let it be known that she is not letting the cat out the bag on anyone just yet.

She tweeted,

Everybody seems to know more about the GETTING TO HAPPY film than me! You’ll see familiar faces. That’s all I can say for now.”

It would be great to see all of them back together again! Anyone else excited about the sequel??

The uber-talented Angela Bassett is returning to the small screen in a new ABC drama entitled “One Police Plaza.”

We haven’t seen Basset since she starred in the final season of “ER” and now the Hollywood diva is coming back in full effect as the first NYC female commissioner. As the details are still rolling in, we’ll keep you updated on the date of its premiere.

In the meantime, I hear Angie’s been casted in T.D. Jakes‘ upcoming project, “Jumping The Broom” where she’ll be playing the mother of Paula Patton this January.

Best-selling author Terry McMillian is taking her latest novel, “Getting to Happy” to the big screen with Twentieth Century Fox. If you’ve been out of the loop, “Getting to Happy” is the sequel to “Waiting to Exhale” which revists the lives of our favorite women, Savannah, Bernadine, Gloria and Robin 15 years later. 

Now we must sit and twiddle our thumbs waiting to see who the cast members will be. Would it be too much to ask for our original gal pals Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, and Lela Rachon??? *fingers crossed*
