 EBONY Magazine is celebrating Jill Scott on the cover of their May issue.

This is the singer and actresses first cover feature and she’s joined by her adorable three year old son, Jett Hamilton Roberts. In the article she talks about the joys and the challenges of raising her son as a single celebrity mom and also dishes on what she thinks is sexy. Check out a few excerpts:

On motherhood:

Motherhood is getting your hands and your feet in the soil…When Jett puts my face in his hands and tells me, ‘Mommy you’re so pretty’ or smells me, it’s so wonderful.”

On being a single mom:

That I-can-do-it-by-myself mentality is a lie. I’m sorry if I hurt anybody’s feelings, but you cannot do it all by yourself. You need a village: some aunties, grandmoms, friends. I couldn’t do this by myself and would be a fool to think I could.”

On raising a boy:

It’s challenging being a single mom…No matter what I do, I’ll never be a man. Ever. I can show Jett how to be a thinker, how to enjoy music or how to feel, and to conquer. But I cannot show him how to be a man.”

On being sexy:

The way I see things, I think that’s sexy. The way I think and the way I pray, I believe, are very sexy. I’ve never been the girl with too few clothes on. My mother told me… ‘It’s what you don’t do that makes you sexy moreso than what you do.’…”

EBONY magazine debuted their three covers displaying BLACK LOVE Couples for their February 2013 issue. The covers featured couples TI and Tiny, Meagan Good and Devon Franklin and Bishop T.D. and Serita Jakes.

Good & Franklin are the newlyweds amongst the group. They got married seven months ago and Good told the mag how they’re able to keep a solid relationship with one another.

One of the reasons I think God put us together is that we see the world very much alike, and where we see it differently, we complement each other.

And if they need to spruce things up, Meagan added,

What do I do for him that’s romantic? I try to surprise him whenever he comes to town. I wear nice things…Wink!”

Okay gurrrrrlllll!!! Lol

Rapper TI and his wife Tiny have been together for a whopping 14 years, and married for two and a half. These two have dealt with a lot of tough things, including TI serving some time in jail, but according to TI, once you happily commit to someone you can overcome the obstacles…together.

Once I made my mind up that I was going to be committed to this relationship, I started being married then and there…Since I’ve been married, it’s the same relationship, we’re the same people. We treat each other the same way, and we’re just as happy now as we were before.”

And for Bishop T.D. Jakes and his wife Serita, who have been married the longest of the three cover couples, they know what it takes to make a marriage work and continue to thrive. T.D. shared,

Marriage requires work and expecting the unexpected. Don’t let other people design a marriage you can’t live with. Keep other people out your business. Every marriage is different.”

Singers Brandy and Monica look stunning and ready for Spring as they pose on the cover of Ebony Magazine‘s June 2012 Music Issue in pale yellow and pink spring palettes.

During the interview the ladies discuss their most recent collaboration, ‘It All Belongs To Me’, and why working together after 14 years was perfect timing, as well as their individual singing careers. In addition, Brandy decided to talk to about marriage and clears up rumors about her little brother Ray J.

Brandy On Her Boyfriend Ryan:

I wish we were engaged. He’s taking a little long on the ring side of things, but I’m patient. I wanted to impress him. I wanted him to be proud of me; I was inspired by him. So making the record and his being there, it’s just all a part of it. Him and my daughter. I want him to love my songs. I want him to love my voice.

On Her Brother Ray J:

I know who he is. And I”m pissed off about some of the things I’ve been hearing. It really bothers me that [those are] the kind of things that people do for money.

He’s misunderstood. It’s one thing to have this image of [a ladies' man], but it’s another to become this other type of person that they’re trying to make my brother out to be. I know who he is. This is a man who loves his mama and his sister and his niece. Ray J loved Kim Kardashian. They were irresponsible with their–you know–but he loved her. For five years, he was with her. In his mind and in the world’s mind, he was in my shadow for such a long time. To watch his sister become whatever I became and to not have that same path or that same way it happened for me; to be called ‘Brandy’s brother…’ To finally break out of it, you’re going to brag; you’re going to feel something about yourself. It’s not coming from a bad place, and I can tell you: Some of the shoes Ray J’s walking in, you’d take off immediately. You wouldn’t be able to handle the type of shoes he’s in.

As if Nia Long wasn’t fabulous enough, now she’s taken mommy fab to the next level by baring it all for the November 2011 double cover of Ebony magazine. Nia, who is in her last trimester of pregnancy, sat down with the magazine for one of her most personal and intimate interviews to date. In the article the 40-year-old actress talks about her childhood, reconnecting with family, her pregnancy surprise and more.

Tyler “Madea” Perry covers the August issue of EBONY Magazine. Front and center on ‘The Black Wealth Issue’ that’s on stands now, Perry talks about how he almost became a father, his feelings towards Spike Lee and his personal definition of wealth. Here’s what he had to say:

How he almost became a father:

Back in December” he began “when we thought we were having a kid, I got overwhelmed. “We” (the interviewer asked) Is there a woman in your life? “Yeah” he responded–smiling yet no elaborating. He says, “she is really, really special. It’s the longest relationship I’ve been in, largely because I don’t feel any kind of marry-me-now pressure from her”.

Letting go of his personal feelings toward Spike Lee:

Because I saw his children and forgot that the man has kids. I’m gonna be more respectful of him and his family. I believe Spike can do what he does and I can do what I do. We both have a voice and very different experiences in life. There’s room for more than one of us in every industry, and the moment we embrace that as a society, we can get past all this stuff”.

Defining his personal relationship with wealth:

I’ve always been wealthy because I had a tremendous amount of love from my mother. She didn’t have much, but she gave me Jesus.”

Speaking about his mother, he tells EBONY how he waited after his mother passed to reveal his sexual abuse.

When my mother took her last breath, I was able to take my first because I would not be a source of pain for her as long as she was alive.I didn’t know how liberating it would be to sit in the pain of the moment, feel it, allow myself to squeeze it as hard as I could then let it go”.

Perry deserves a round of applause for opening up to his fans about his life. With that being said, I’m on my way to the newsstand to pick up the latest copy of EBONY and you should too!

Taraji P. Henson and Tyrese are showing the world just how much they’ve grown since their Baby Boy days. The former co-stars ooze sex appeal in their white hot looks for the July 2011 Collector’s Edition of Ebony Magazine. The double cover issue, which hits stands June 15th, features Ebony’s first ever 50 Finest List and also highlights the cast of Boyz N The Hood.

Both Taraji and Tyrese have upcoming projects in the works. Tyrese is starring in the movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon, out July 4th weekend, while Taraji will star in the film Larry Crowne and was just tapped for the cast of Think Like A Man, which is based on Steve Harvey’s book.
