My First Week at V103 Atlanta Was FIRE!

Well I made the move! It’s been one huge whirlwind. On Thursday January 12th I gave birth to my daughter Kendall. Four weeks after my c-section I was packing my house to prepare for my new chapter in Atlanta. I learned a serious lesson in this experience…..NEVER EVER EVER EVER try to move cross country right after having a baby. I must have thought I was superwoman or something. A sister is worn OUT!!! loll

Nevertheless, I’m excited about this new phase in my career. Atlanta is a beauuuuutiful city with charming people. V103 is a Monster station so this is a big moment. I gotta thank everyone who came out to welcome me to ATL….

Brandy, Monica, Marsha Ambrosius, Musiq Soulchild, Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas, Keith Sweat, Nelly, Toya Wright, Trina Braxton, Waka Flaka Flame, Dr. Steven Perry, Nicole Paultre-Bell, Mona Scott Young and More lent their support for my midday radio show, “On Air With Egypt,”from 10 am- 2 pm.

Marsha Ambrosius called in to not only welcome but me, but revealed that she is hard at work on her new album, the follow up to the Grammy Nominated, “Late Nights Early Mornings.”

Reality TV Star/Author, Toya Wright, “called out” Grammy Award nominated Atlantic Records recording artist, Musiq Soulchild, for standing her up at her wedding to Memphitz Wright. She said Musiq was supposed to sing at the ceremony. I had Musiq give Toya a “make good” with an impromptu serenade live on the air of his smash record “Love.”

Music Superproducer Jazze Pha weighed in on who he thought should play the roles of Whitney Houston & Bobby Brown in a movie about their lives. He also played a new music exclusive from his new artist, Gasner Allen.

Keith Sweat and I led a conversation about President Obama’s recent visit to ATL and the racist bumper stickers that are now being sold in Obama’s name. “Don’t Re-NIG in 2012,” “Lincoln freed the slaves and now Obama is enslaving the free.”

Nelly & Chilli gave their opinions on a phenomenon that has been discussed at length: “Why women can’t seem to find Mr. Right in Atlanta.”

Trina Braxton, Demetria McKinney and I shared details about our childbirth stories. PUUUUUSSSSHHHHH!!! lolol…

Veteran music executive turned reality television producer, Mona Scott Young joined my show to discuss the upcoming season of “Love And Hip Hop: ATL.” She also confirmed that the original cast of “Love And Hip Hop” would have another season, but perhaps Chrissy would not be joining them. Mona eluded that Chrissy and Jim Jones were working on a spin off of the show. She also mentioned that she’d like to possibly do “Love And Hip Hop” Cali next!

Rap’s Most Buzzworthy Newcomer, Waka Flaka Flame, and I laughed about some of the jobs we had as teenagers. I revealed that I used to be Chuck E Cheese in high school…..now that everyone knows that I’ve gotta kill ya! hehehe

This past Thursday I was the host of an exclusive V-103 “Soul Sessions” performance and Q&A session with R&B stars, Brandy and Monica.

Nicole Paultre-Bell, fiance of slain New York City groom-to-be Sean Bell and Dr. Steven Perry, author and CNN education contributor, each called in to share their thoughts on the Trayvon Martin killing. And I witnessed the most amazing thing……6,000 students from Clark, Morehouse, Spellman and Georgia Tech rallied on the steps of  Georgia Capital Building for the “I AM TRAYVON MARTIN” RALLY.

This is only the beginning…

“On Air With Egypt” can now be heard daily Monday-Friday from 10 am-2 pm on 103.5 FM in Atlanta and via the internet at www.V-103.com.

Video On Blast: Music Soulchild- “Yes”

Musiq Soulchild has released his new video for “Yes,” off his sixth studio album, MUSIQINTHEMAGIQ. The video takes a stand against women’s breast cancer. He recently announced his new role as an Ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Circle of Promise, a movement designed to further engage black women around the globe in the fight against breast cancer. He plans to raise awareness about breast cancer so that younger women know the importance of early detection and why it’s important to pay attention to their bodies.

Early detection is the key to winning the fight against breast cancer. Too often, black women are diagnosed in stage three and four when breast cancer is most difficult to treat. Some women are afraid to seek treatment for fear of losing their breasts or their hair. One’s physical appearance is much less important than the will to live. It’s time to remove the stigmas that are attached to this disease.”

Directed by Juwan Lee, the video features Musiq as a man who loves and supports his girlfriend through her battle with breast cancer. There is also a special scene in the video that features a group of breast cancer survivors who show their support by wearing t-shirts, pins, and pink ribbons- items associated with Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Musiq said this cause is so dear to him, because his largely female fan base has been so instrumental in his success.

I care because they are at risk. They have always supported me and it’s time that I return the favor and support them. I feel the need to make an impact before breast cancer impacts them and if my music can be the vehicle, then I am happy to serve.”

Check out Musiq’s new video “Yes,” which features breast cancer survivors from the metro-Atlanta area.

El DeBarge Heads To Rehab

El DeBarge, who was on a massive comeback in recent months, has voluntarily checked himself into rehab for substance abuse. In a released statement, he said,

I hate to disappoint my fans but it is necessary for me to take the time to work on me so that I may continue to share my music and my story with everyone. I thank everyone in advance for their prayers and well wishes and hope that you will respect my privacy during this time.”

DeBarge will be replaced by Musiq Soulchild on the upcoming tour scheduled to begin this week in Houston, Texas with Ledisi, and Kem. All of his scheduled appearances have been postponed as well. His fifth and recent studio release Second Chance was nominated for two Grammy’s. El has battled the demons of substance abuse for a number of years and we are glad that he is stepping up to address them.

We are rooting for you El and wish you the best!
