Remembering Whitney Houston, One Year Later

whitney_remember_537x719_v1

It’s been one year since the world lost one of the greatest voices we’ll ever hear. On February 11, 2012, Whitney Houston passed away at the age of 48. Her body was found in a hotel bathtub at the Beverly Hilton. Authorities said her death was complicated by cocaine use and heart disease.

One year ago, celebs were getting ready for Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party when the news broke. Over the weekend, stars including Jill Scott, Jennifer Hudson, Pat and Gary Houston, Estelle and John Legend attended this years party. Performers included Gladys Knight, Miguel and Usher.

Clive told the audience that his world is still “so shattered by her passing” and that Houston’s death still feels “unreal.” Then he played a video of Whitney singing “All The Man That I Need,” a rare performance, and he called her ”greatest, greatest singer of our lifetime.”

Check out some of the footage below:

Whitney’s “Sparkle” co-star, Jordin Sparks, along with other musicians, also gave a moving tribute at Tru Hollywood, the last place Whitney had performed before her death.

Whitney, we miss you!!!

Cissy Houston: ‘I’m Angry Whitney Died Alone’

It’s been almost one year since the world lost one of the greatest voices that we will ever hear: Whitney Houston. In a new memoir, Remembering Whitney, Cissy Houston, who is still struggling with losing her daughter, feels “angry” that Whitney was alone when she died.

Cissy, 79, writes very openly about Whitney’s drug problems that eventually led to her tragic death. Whitney died on February 11th in her Beverly Hills hotel suite. She had drowned in the bathtub with traces of cocaine still in her system. In an excerpt from the book Cissy wrote,

She started partying and she didn’t really know how to stop. I used to wonder what she was doing at night, where she was… Could I have saved her somehow?… I’m angry she died alone, in those conditions. I’m still mad about that.”

Cissy said Whitney used to hide from her, and didn’t answer her calls, but, on the other hand, she was scared to confront her as well.

What was the point? I didn’t want her to run completely away from me.”

Cissy, 79, also said she doesn’t blame Whitney’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown for her drug dependency.

I blame him for the way he treated her, but I don’t blame him for her drug problems. He was no help to her at all.”

She just hopes, if nothing else, that her book will remind the fans “what a good person she was. I want people to know the truth about her, how she really was.” The book is set to be released Tuesday, January 29th.

Bobby Brown Wanted Bobbi Kristina On His Reality Show – Not Her Own

If Bobby Brown came across as a concerned father due to not being supportive of Bobbi Kristina being on a reality show it may not be what it seems. His attitude towards the idea is allegedly due to his wanting her for his own show – not one with the Houston family. According to sources close to the R&B singer, Bobby hoped his daughter would agree to appear on his show, a move in which the Houston family feels was a way to make it more marketable. But according to TMZ, the chances of that happening are slim to none. With Bobbi Kris cutting of all communication with her father, Bobby has been trying to reach her through Pat Houston, Whitney‘s manager and sister-in-law. But Mr. Brown had a reality check when he learned about the Houstons’ new show on Lifetime - just like the rest of us.  Any hopes of Bobbi K appearing on his show are probably out the window..

Cissy Houston Breaks Her Silence On Whitney’s Death

Whitney Houston was tragically found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room on February 11, and since her passing, her daughter Bobbi Kristina, brother Gary Houston an sister-in-law, Patricia Houston, have spoken out publicly. Whitney’s mom, Cissy Houston, has remained quiet but will finally be opening up in a pre-taped interview with New Jersey’s MY9 news, which is set to air tonight.

When asked about the death of her beloved daughter, Cissy said, “I have my moments. I’m not there yet. I don’t think I’m any more courageous than anyone else. I am a true believer in God, if I could bring her back I would, but that’s not possible.”

The tabloids have had a lot to say about Whitney’s death and what caused it, as well as what was found in the room at the time of her death. Cissy said that’s why she has remained quiet for so long.

All they know is what they hear, bad things, she’s had her ups and downs. Who hasn’t? Let them think and know what they want to say … I just hope they never come and say it to me.”

Cissy  knows what kind of a person her daughter was. “I’m very proud of my daughter. She accomplished a whole lot in the short time that she had here … she was a very wonderful person. My children are my whole life. She was very special to me … she was my only daughter, and a good one. Looked out for her family.”

In regards to the drug use, Cissy said, “I know I did the best I could. I don’t blame myself. I know I did the best I could for everything.”

The Los Angeles County coroner said the official cause of death was accidental drowning, and cocaine and heart disease were contributing factors.
