Real Housewife Divorce Settlement Details…

Sheree Whitfield of Real Housewives of Atlanta has built her television career on  the phrase “I just want my seven figure settlement”. But did she ever get it?? Well details of her divorce settlement have now emerged.

In the settlement Sheree gets custody of the couples two children, along with $2, 142 a month for child support. (btw, do you notice we never see Sheree’s children on the show?!) She also gets a 2006 Range Rover Sport, $250,000 of her ex’s 401k plan and some shares of 3 other NFL retirement plans. and she also gets two lump sum payments that will total $775,000. So all in all she DID get her seven figure settlement when you total everything together. The question is….was it the type of seven figure settlement she was looking for??

Btw, you can catch me on CNN Headline News today at 5pm discussing the Real Housewives of Atlanta along with Alana of The Root. The question they asked was, Is Real Housewives a negative depiction of black women?

The truth is that I enjoy the show and watch it religiously!! I don’t look at it as a negative portrayal of black women.  It’s a reality show and the show is just a depiction of who these women are as individuals, (oh and by the way, they happen to be black {sarcastically}). One of the women (Kim) isn’t even black.

Case in point, Kandi Burruss is probably the calmest of the bunch. She’s going through trials and tribulations that many women of all races go through. But on the flip side, Kandi gets accused on many blogs (including my own in the comment section), as not being a strong enough black woman….and this is coming from other black women. So what does that mean??

There is a certain baggage that ALL people come with, and certain stereotypes that ALL ethnic races fight to dispel. It’s often said that blondes aren’t as smart as brunettes. Is that necessarily true? No. Its also been said that heavy set people aren’t as successful as skinny people. Is that true?? No. I mean come on, we need to get past the baggage and the stereotypes and just learn to take people at face value for who and what they are.

If there is a feeling that Real Housewives is a negative depiction of Black women, then I think it’s because of a deeper problem. For years black women have been labeled as so many things, loud, opinionated,  rambunctious, etc. But to many of us thats just who we naturally are, the type of women who call it like we see. To me thats a trait that makes us special and unique. But now unfortunately, these are traits that SOME black women are afraid of and shouldn’t be. That’s just my opinion…

  1. i disagree E. Them catfighting and all that caddiness make us as black women look petty and frivolous. They let Deshawn snow go because she wasn’t drama enough.

  2. Nah man Egypt is right. Its just entertainment and nothing more. why do people always wanna pick shyyt apart and find something to complain about or be mad at? I think the show has positive and negative aspects. Lisa is a hustla and works her tail off, Sheree is trying to climb back up on her feet after a messy divorce, and Kandi is really a positive independent woman. The only dirtdigger is Kim and she ain’t black.

  3. Hey Egypt!

No, I don’t think the houswives are a bad example for black women. I don’ t
think it has anything to do with being black or white. They are just women
(including one white women) that are dealing with their own issues on
camera. I don’t agree with some of their actions, decisions, or remarks
but….their actions, decisions, and remarks don’t speak for all black women
and one white women. It is what it is, and people can either decide to
watch it or not watch it. I personally watch the show every week and find
it very entertaining. Don’t get me wrong I think it is a lot of drama but,
can we really put 5 women (regardless of race) together on a consistent
basis and expect there to be no drama???

It’s really good to see that you have succeeded and are doing well. Keep
doing you girl!!! You look beautiful in your pics on facebook!!!

    Take Care!

  4. Housewives of Atlanta is definitely a disgrace to black women, society and the world looks at TV and group all black women to be like these broke ho’s. To see black “so-called” socialites behave like high school students is a slap in the face. Bring Deshawn Snow back. She has the real money and the rest of them ho’s are nothing but a lie.

Why do you think the world judge blacks so negatively? It’s because of TV you fools. That’s why blacks have to work twice as hard to make it in this society. These bunch of jungle bunnies just set us back two steps.

  5. the real housewive series all together is a negative portrayal of women. atlanta is no different than the crap that goes on during the other seasons. this show is all about the drama that goes down when self-absorbed, pseudo-rich women are forced to be “friends.” pure entertainment.

  6. I love this show….IT is not a negative depiction of black women. This is their lives. I am a teacher with two master’s degree and will never have all that money they have to waste. The reality is we have to take this show for what it is…ENTERTAINMENT!! I am so entertained…I love it.

  7. @Jenn Why must they be ho’s? NeNe is married so is Lisa and Sheree is divorced and says she isnt even looking to date right now. You sound just as ghetto as you accuse them of being.

  8. I absolutely love the show and I too watch it religiously…can’t wait until tonight to see it. Regarding Sheree’s settlement, she was legally married to her husband for 7 years but of the 7 they were together for only three years and the remaining years they were separated. I think the settlement is fair given the amount of time she spent in the relationship. She should use some of the money to invest in something lucrative so she can live off what she wanted to get but did not receive from her divorce.

  9. I think the show isn’t a negative reflection on black women, but proof that if you get the right man and do a few tricks you can get paid better than if your built the wealth yourself. Who needs a brain for being an entrepreneur. Leave the hard work for your lawyer as they draft the divorce papers after the wedding reception. I for once thought women, black or white, would use this opportunity to show that ANY one can do ANYTHING they can set their mind to, including making a good life for yourself and your family. Again, I was wrong.

As for being entertainment, if it had a script you have a point. You couldn’t make this foolishness they call reality up. Enough said.

Usher was right…where’s the receipt. You won’t live off my dime. Go be a real housewife of Atlanta.
