Tracy Morgan hosts the V-H-1 Hip-Hop Honors, which airs tonight at 9 p-m [ET]. I attended the taping last month at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, the show honors Def Jam Records’ 25th anniversary and features performances from Ashanti, Ja Rule, Foxy Brown, Gym Class Heroes, D-M-X and Eminem. Don’t expect Kanye West, Jay-Z or LL Cool J because they were all no-shows for the tribute.

Mario returns today with his fourth album, D-N-A. The disc features “Break Up,” which is the number-two song on the Billboard R-&-B chart. It also includes contributions from Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Polow da Don, Jazze Pha, Stargate, Tricky Stewart and The Dream.

Mario says the disc is “amazing. I really feel like this is gonna be my best album, hands down. Also, it’ll cross all of the generations. I think anybody will be able to buy the album because it’s refreshing.”

And the latest critic to weigh in on President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize is Professor Cornell West. He questions the factors that lead to the decision. The scholar and Princeton University Professor told E-U-R Web, “I think that it puts brother Barack in a very tough situation because if you got a Peace prize and you end up being a war president in Afghanistan, if you got a Peace prize and you don’t want to investigate and prosecute people who have been torturing people, turn your back, it doesn’t look good. You know, you already sent 21-thousand troops. You might send 65-thousand troops. That’s not a Peace Prize-acting activity.”

  1. It’s sad that still in 2009, we as black people still have the crabs in a barrel mentality. Professor West has been a hater of President Obama since he was campaigning. In public forums and panels Professor West has discredited and belittled President since the days of the campaign trail and he still is. First of all, a part of this unpeacefulness is not President Obama’s doing, but that class of a former president named Bush. When will we as a people ban together and support each other. Even if we don’t like each other, we should always present a united front for the greater good of our race. Everytime we tear each other down, we are doing the “devil’s” dirty work and “he” sits back and laugh.

This is why even today, we don’t have anything substantial as a unit that we can say we own or have. Jews, Asians, Whites, and even Latinos have come together and built businesses and legacies for their generations to come after, yet in 2009 we as black people still pull each other down, don’t trust each other, and just like in slavery, will sell ourselves and each other for money eventhough the value of ownership is larger that than the dollar amount. The sad part is in another 100 years, I bet my point will still be valid UNLESS, we as a people stop this nonsense and build each other up, not tear each other down. To quote the “Late Registration” album….”Wake Up Mr. West!”

  2. P.S….DAMN! Kobe looks fine! I can admit, I’m not the biggest Kobe Bryant fan, but dammit, he looks like a piece of chocolate that I want to eat on this picture :-)

  3. Kobe ain’t shit!

Anyway, Miss Thang, I agree with you 100! But another point that I wanted to point to is the fact that not only did Bush put this country on the battlelines with two countries but the very same whites and black hatin’ on POTUS are the same ones that wanted the war. White folks ain’t foolin’ nobody but themselves. They cheered when POTUS lost the Olympics and were enraged when POTUS won a peace prize. Is any of this because of his policies? No! It’s because half of the POTUS looks like the people they’ve been keeping down for centuries and they hate it. They even look at his mother as a race trader for letting that darkie put a seed in her lily whyte ass. So whytey and house niggraz alike will continue to hate on POTUS as long as he looks like he should be in a rap video…

  4. Why is someone “hatin” because he/she tells the truth? I read Dr. West’s statement several times, and I don’t see anything hateful about it. Hey, the truth hurts.

  5. Obama didn’t deserve to win, and due to that fact he was called out. Seems good to me. hater or not he’s totally right for saying what he said.

  6. I agree with Dr. West. Its time to bring our troops home PERIOD, more and more of them are being killed every single day. While I understand the purpose of our military, and I myself am a veteran, we are fighting a senseless war, going on 10 years now, and it is ridiculous. Our sons, daughters, husbands, wives, siblings, etc., are dying for nothing. There are places here in the U.S. that need all this support that they are getting in Iraq/Afghanistan. And this has nothing to do with him receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, its about using common sense and doing whats right.

And while President Obama may be pulling most of them out of Iraq, they are now being placed on rotation to Afghanistan and the troop level is increasing. There’s no difference at all…I think it should be a requirement to serve on active duty military status for at least 4 years before you can even run for President. Maybe then they could better relate to deployments and fighting a war without purpose.
