NBC Celebrates Black History Month with Fried Chicken

“Chicken, get yo’ chicky hereeee!”….

The Roots drummer and current member of Jimmy Fallon’s house band, Questlove, snapped a picture of NBC’s Black History Month’s Menu in the cafeteria…

NBC is catching alot of heat for serving Fried Chicken, Collard Greens and Cornbread in honor of Black History Month.  Once Questlove posted the menu on his Twitter page…the drama began!!!

NBC’s VP of Communications, Kevin Goldman, made a public apology via Twitter:

The sign in the NBCU cafeteria has been removed. We apologize for anyone who was offended by it.

Chef Leslie, who is black may I add, has been trying to implement a Black HIstory Month menu for years and after finally being granted permission,  she doesn’t understand the controversy.  Did you really find it offensive??? That was probably the best dang lunch the staff had all year.

  1. I’m sure it was quite tasty. I applaud Chef Leslie for her perseverance. But I speak truth to power in urging this multi-billion dollar entertainment production and programming empire to reach out and celebrate black/African-American culture and heritage by tapping the vast well of talent in the community. There are a plethora of talented black/African-American writers, producers, performers, musicians who could be showcased and give NBC a great edge in global audience share (which, of course, would translate into ad revenues and enhanced profits). Show your true colors, NBC — not just during Black/African-American History Month, but year-round!

  2. I don’t know why black folks got mad. Isn’t that the kind of food that niggaz eat?

  3. i dont see wat the big deal was

  4. I was not offended especially knowing that the Chef was a person of color. We (Black folk) yell and hollar about some of the most unimportant things. Who cares about fried chicken when KNOW that that is OUR FOOD!

  5. maybe the lady did not understand the purpose of the menu. she celebrated the month with food that we all know. in the way it was brought to everyone it seems raciest though. it is good but it does not seem like a something special. maybe food that no one has had. maybe she is planning some overall menu that goes over a wide range of food of african-americans. it looks very uncreative from the start but it might be something good. what choices do you have in a lunchroom anyway.

  6. @Smiely, I agree..I’d like a plate of dat! wonder if the fountain soda was strawberry!!
